RSCU mk4

The RSCU-mk4 series consist of two members in the following executions:

  • RSCU-mk4 (96x96mm);
  • RSCU-mk4.2 (96x96mm)

They both share the classic recognisable bow-shaped rotatable top section.

The control units of the RSCU series (Rotation and Speed Control Unit) are console mounted lever units designed for controlling both speed (RPM or pitch) and heading (azimuth). All types can be equipped with potentiometers and/or micro switches or CAN transmitters for both speed as well as heading control.

Specs

The RSCU-mk4 comes with potentiometers and/or micro switches for the electrical interface with the propulsion- and steering control systems. It is available with a IP42 or IP56 rating, and with the possibility to limit the speed lever travel and/or steering angle according to your requirements. Palpable stops (detents) can be supplied in both sections. It comes in top- as well as bottom mounted models, the latter for flush mounting.

The RSCU-mk4.2 has been designed for twin engine and rudder control in a single device. The speed levers can move independently, whereas rudder control is simultaneous i.e. the two rudder potentiometers move in synchronicity. Unlike the mk4, it’s rotation angle is limited to +/-60°, and it comes in flush mounted version only.

The RSCU-mk4 series are not available with stepper motors for electric shaft operation.

IP level: IP40 / IP56

All executions are type-approved by ABS, BV, CCS, DNV, LRS, NKK , RINA and RMRS.

BUK-C

The BUK-C is the second largest console mounted propulsion control lever unit of the BUK-series, with a well-recognized, widely applied and much appreciated timeless classic appearance. The lever unit comes in a number of variations for user- and machinery interfaces. In the BUK-C extended version, a maximum of four HMI pushbuttons/buzzers/signal lamps/dimmers can be incorporated, as well as a wide range of electrical machinery interfaces. The BUK-C special version, is typically suitable for transverse thruster control.

Portable Wireless Control – Spectrum 3

The wireless portable remote control system is a smart and convenient alternative for fixed additional control stands, thus replacing e.g. bridge wing or fly bridge consoles. Saving considerably on building costs & mounting space. CAESAR Systems for Dredgers

The electronics revolution over the last decades has a serious impact which is not limited to:
  • Obsoleteness of analogue electrical components such as dedicated circuit boards.
  • Lack of skilled engineers to service older systems. Therefore keeping spare parts onboard does not guarantee uninterrupted ship’s service.
  • Growing complexity and diversification of digital systems further limiting the possibility to find skilled engineers.
The above is becoming a serious but often ignored risk for ship operators, since a major malfunction in the control system can create idle time of the vessel. The good news is that a retrofit with a CAESAR Propulsion Control System (CAESAR PCS) can eliminate this risk. Furthermore, it will result in lower maintenance costs as well as improvements such as reduced fuel consumption. Over the years the proven CAESAR PCS has grown towards an extensive installed base for the world’s leading maritime companies, including the leading dredging corporates. CAEASAR systems are dedicated for control of propulsion and steering. All systems are built; to fulfill customer requirements and according to the rules & regulations of the Classification Societies. Its modular configuration allows for its versatile application on various types of ships. Furthermore, the CAESAR PCS is developed on a generic platform allowing to become independent of availability of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) hardware. For Trailing Suction Hopper Dredgers (TSHD), dedicated (software) modules are designed, which makes the CAESAR PCS well suitable for various configurations and control principles. RSCU-H

The RSCU-H series consist of three members in the following executions:
  • RSCU-H96 (96x96mm);
  • RSCU-H144 (144x144mm);
As their names already suggest, the main difference is the size of the top plates. The RSCU-H96 bottom section has been designed as a machined aluminium block. The RSCU-H144 is composed more traditionally and therefore allows more variations when it comes to machinery interfaces. They both share the recognizable cylinder shaped control head, identical to that of the BUK-H propulsion levers.

BUK-G

The BUK-G is the smallest of the BUK-series, especially designed for applications in yachting. It is also suitable for transverse thruster control. The basic signal transmitter is a 2KOhm potentiometer that returns 10-90% of its supply voltage over the full lever travel of 120°.

RSA-series, Rudder angle

Indicators of the RSA-series have been especially designed for rudder angle indication. Types RSA-3 thru RSA-7 are based on the same servomotor principle (RSM-4) and require only an external potentiometer as well as a 24VDC supply voltage to make them operational. The RSA-9 and RSA-10 are cost reduced versions of the RSA-7 and RSA-4 respectively. Kwant Controls also supplies a matching signal transmitter mounted in a rugged housing, the RSG.-1 which can be linked to the rudder machine by means of a sprocket and chain connection. A combination of the RSG-1 and one (or more) of the RSA indicators together form a reliable rudder angle indication system that will last for many years without any maintenance. Diagrams have been added to show some of the possible system set-up’s. In case a panel indicator with a 4-20mA signal input is required, an indicator of the ISI family should be used. These indicators offer galvanic isolation of the input signal and power supply. Please refer to the ISI datasheet for further information.
