The core business of Kwant Controls is the design and manufacturing of various types of control units for the electrical remote control of practically all kinds of propulsion and steering devices, such as: traditional main engine/clutch/CPP-FPP shaft lines, tunnel thrusters, azimuthal thrusters, rudders and water jets.

  • Most units can be equipped with drive motors for automatic lever synchronization in a multi-station electric shaft/telegraph system.
  • Various machinery interfaces can be selected from e.g. potentiometer, 4-20mA, micro-switch contacts or even integrated CAN.
  • In case of remote control failure, one can rely on our traditional lamp type Engine Order Telegraphs, for signalling between Bridge, Control- and Engine Room.
  • Feedback from the vessel’s actuators can be displayed using our panel- or ceiling mounted range of indicators.
  • Customer specific control panels, with built-in lever units, signal lamps, pushbuttons, indicators, buzzers, electronic dimmers et cetera can be supplied. These panels are available with interface modules and PLC’s, together forming a Propulsion Remote Control system tailored to customer requirements, completely functional Factory tested (with or without class and/or customer in attendance).
  • For maximum flexibility of control on board, and eliminating the need for having fixed control positions, class approved portable wireless control systems can be supplied with all control devices integrated.

Specs

The telegraph systems are supplied with potential free telegraph command contacts for a voyage data recorder, as well as for telegraph alarm, power failure and station on service (if more than one receiver/transmitter is used).

Orders are transmitted and acknowledged by pressing the push-button engraved with the required order. When pressed, it remains locked in that position and automatically releases the push-button of the previous order. When an order is transmitted from the wheelhouse telegraph, the signal lamps inside the corresponding pushbuttons at all locations will flash and the audible alarms are activated, giving an intermittent alarm signal. The lamps inside the push-buttons of the previous order remain continuously illuminated. As soon as the order is acknowledged, the push-buttons of the current order will be continuously illuminated and the audible alarms will fade.

The push-button telegraphs can be used in combination with the “Norm” type telegraphs, which have a rotary switch rather than push-buttons, and can be supplied in a watertight, heavy duty execution.

  • Also available in 9 commands i.e. without FWE and STBY.
