In its second year, Kwant Controls launched the electric engine room telegraph, quickly adopted worldwide. Originally making ship telegraphs and dairy industry equipment, the company was acquired by Wilton Fijenoord in 1965, with the filter division later spun off.

In the early 1970s, Kwant regained independence and set its sights on remote ship control. In 1977, it launched a world-first innovation: the electric shaft system, now standard on most seagoing vessels, revolutionizing bridge control with safe, seamless operation from multiple positions.

By the late 20th century, Kwant introduced another world-first: CAN transmitters replacing analogue electronics—boosting reliability and setting a new industry standard.

Back to family business

In 2003 the company returned to its roots as an independent family business and became Kwant Controls.
